What is the Local Reproductive Justice Agenda?

The powers of city and county governments to expand abortion access and support reproductive justice are often overlooked. Our collaborative understands the importance of local politics in the well-being of our communities. We know that we must fight for abortion justice at EVERY level of government, so we created the Local Reproductive Justice Agenda.

Our agenda is a series of policy recommendations and advocacy guidelines supported by our collaborative campaigns. The Local RJ Agenda seeks to empower Georgians to advocate for their municipalities to use both policy and programmatic power to achieve their constituents’ full reproductive health and freedom.

While Amplify’s local campaigns are currently focused in Atlanta, Dekalb County, and Athens/Clarke County, we hope that healthcare providers, organizers, elected officials, faith leaders, and all abortion-positive citizens in every Georgia municipality use these resources. Atlanta

Atlanta

During the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve seen how local leadership can stand up against state government to protect their residents. We believe that Atlanta can do the same for reproductive justice against state attacks on abortion access. In 2019, we successfully got the city of Atlanta to establish the Reproductive Justice Commission to push for proactive policies, and we’re seeking more ways to get our community members, abortion providers, and advocates to be a the heart of decision-making in the city.

Dekalb RJ

Dekalb RJ

With Dekalb County being home to one of the largest refugee populations in the country, we are building the first reproductive justice campaign to address a combination of barriers to access that are unique compared to other parts of our state, such as language access, domestic violence, and female genital mutilation. The tenets of reproductive justice and abortion should be accessible to ALL communities, and we’re making that happen in Dekalb.

Athens RJ Collective

The Athens RJ Collective was formed to advance reproductive health, rights, and justice policies in Athens, and we are working closely with them to create a Reproductive Justice Commission in their city.
